Community Action at First |
|
|
|
First United has been highly engaged in social justice efforts and many of our congregants work in fields that are committed to making a difference in our community and world. Our social action is an integral part of our Christian faith.
Currently, we are involved in: - Community partnerships such as Centretown Laundry Co-op, selling fair trade products, offering a monthly luncheon to clients of the Canadian Mental Health Association and supporting the initiatives of Centre 507.
- The “Westboro Regional Food Bank” and a “New to You Shop” are both housed within the building.
- We also work for social justice throughout the world through advocacy, education, lobbying and participating in marches and rallies.
- We are supportive of the efforts of The United Church of Canada through its Justice, Global, and Ecumenical Relations Unit.
- We are supportive of the efforts of KAIROS, an organization of several churches engaged in social justice work.
- We are presently sponsoring a refugee family from Darfur.
- Many community groups and A.A groups meet within the building.
